Inside the pack
Six resources built around one goal
L4M2 asks you to understand the full process of translating organisational requirements into procurement-ready specifications — from gathering user needs to selecting the right specification type and drafting a statement of work. The revision pack organises that process into clear, structured knowledge and pairs it with the written response practice and feedback the CR format demands.
Condensed study notes
Twenty to twenty-five pages covering every L4M2 learning outcome — understanding user requirements, the specification development process, technical and commercial specifications, output versus input specifications, performance specifications, and the statement of work. Written to show how each concept connects to procurement decisions in practice, and to build the kind of analytical understanding that generates strong written exam responses rather than descriptive recall.
Practice exam questions
Fifteen to twenty constructed response questions aligned to the full range of L4M2 topics, written in the style of the actual Level 4 exam. L4M2 questions frequently require you to compare specification types, evaluate their suitability for a described procurement context, or justify an approach to requirement gathering — all of which require structured, analytical written responses. These questions develop the judgement and fluency that a three-hour written exam demands.
Tutor marking service
Submit your answers and receive written feedback from Katie within five working days. L4M2 is a module where students often understand the concepts but produce written responses that are too descriptive — listing the features of different specification types rather than analysing which is most appropriate for a given context and why. Katie’s feedback identifies that pattern specifically, along with any gaps in content coverage or response structure, before they cost marks on exam day.
Model answers & mark schemes
High-scoring example responses that show what a well-structured, analytically sound L4M2 written answer looks like. In a module built around comparison and evaluation — output versus input specifications, performance specifications versus technical specifications — the model answers are particularly instructive in showing how those comparisons should be framed and how arguments should be constructed to earn marks at Level 4 standard.
Self-assessment checklist
A structured tool to work through every L4M2 learning outcome and identify where your knowledge is secure and where it needs attention. L4M2 covers a range of distinct specification types and requirement-gathering approaches — this checklist ensures each one is prepared to exam standard and that no area is assumed to be covered by general procurement experience.
Exam technique tips
The mistakes L4M2 students most commonly make in CR exams: describing specification types rather than evaluating them, failing to relate theoretical frameworks to the specific context given in the question, and spending too long on questions early in the paper at the expense of later ones. Practical guidance structured around the three-hour written format you’ll face on exam day.

Why it works
Three reasons students pass with this pack
L4M2 is a module where practical experience creates a particular kind of preparation risk: students who have written specifications professionally often feel more ready than they are, because the exam tests the analytical frameworks behind specification practice rather than specification-writing skill itself. This pack bridges that gap — building the examinable knowledge base and the written response quality the CR format rewards.
01
The condensed notes don’t present specification types as a classification exercise — they frame each type in terms of when it is used, what its advantages and limitations are, and how it compares to the alternatives. When an exam question presents a procurement scenario and asks you to recommend a specification approach, you’re drawing on organised, context-ready analytical knowledge rather than reaching back to a general sense of what each type involves. That preparation produces structured, confident responses rather than descriptive ones.
02
L4M2 questions are frequently comparative in nature — asking you to evaluate one specification approach against another, or to assess the appropriateness of a given approach for a specific context. That kind of analytical writing requires practice. The CR questions develop the habit of structuring comparisons clearly, supporting evaluation with relevant reasoning, and arriving at a justified conclusion — the response qualities the mark scheme rewards at Level 4 standard.
03
The most common issue at Level 4 is not knowing what to write — it’s writing descriptively when the question calls for analysis. Katie’s feedback on L4M2 responses is specifically structured around that distinction: identifying where an answer listed features of a specification type when it should have evaluated its suitability, where a comparison missed the analytical conclusion, or where a recommendation was stated but not justified. Knowing where that gap sits in your current responses — and what closing it looks like — is what improves your mark.
Why it works
What you’re preparing for
The plan below assumes two to four weeks before your exam. L4M2 lends itself well to the structured two-week plan because the core content — specification types and requirement-gathering frameworks — can be revised thoroughly in the first few days, leaving the bulk of preparation time for written practice and feedback. That balance is exactly what the CR format rewards.
Review and practice
Read, attempt, submit
-
Days 1–2
Work through the condensed notes in full. As you read, build a clear mental map of how the different specification types relate to each other — their characteristics, their appropriate contexts, and their relative advantages and limitations. This comparative understanding is the foundation of most L4M2 exam questions and needs to be precise before you attempt the practice questions.
-
Days 3–4
Attempt a selection of the practice questions under timed conditions, writing full analytical responses rather than notes or bullet points. Pay attention to whether your responses are evaluating and comparing — or whether they are describing and listing. Noting that distinction in your own writing is a valuable diagnostic in itself, and one that the model answers will help you calibrate.
-
Day 5
Submit your answers to Katie for tutor marking. While you wait, work through the model answers independently, comparing not just the content of high-scoring responses but their structure — how comparisons are framed, how conclusions are reached, and how the question’s specific context is addressed throughout.
-
Days 6–7Use the self-assessment checklist to flag every learning outcome where you lost marks or felt that your written response was weaker than it should be. At Level 4, this checklist covers both content gaps and response quality — both need separate attention in Week 2.Week 2 — Improve and final prep
Improve and final prep
Refine, rewrite, rest
-
Days 8–9
Receive and read Katie’s feedback carefully. In L4M2, pay particular attention to any observations about analytical depth — where your response described a specification type rather than evaluating it, or where a comparison was set up but not concluded. Those are the response patterns to correct in the rewrites you’ll do on Day 10.
-
Day 10
Rewrite any responses Katie identified as weaker, applying the structural and analytical improvements from the feedback. Focus on transforming descriptive passages into evaluative ones — this active rewriting is significantly more effective than re-reading the notes at this stage, and it directly targets the response quality the CR mark scheme rewards.
-
Day 11
Attempt two or three further practice questions under full timed conditions. Apply the improvements from the feedback and assess the quality of your responses against the model answers before the exam.
-
Days 12–14
Light review of the exam technique tips, particularly the guidance on time allocation across a three-hour paper. Rest properly. You’ve done the targeted work — your job now is to arrive at the exam clear-headed and ready to write.

Right for you?
Who this pack is designed for
This is a revision product for students who have already worked through the L4M2 material. It’s designed for the preparation phase — when what you need is structured written practice, external feedback on your responses, and a clear plan for the final two to four weeks before your exam.
Exam approaching in 2–4 weeks
You’ve covered the L4M2 content and you’re moving into exam preparation. The pack gives you a structured plan built around the CR format, realistic practice questions at Level 4 standard, and tutor feedback that identifies where your written responses need to develop before exam day.
Resit students
L4M2 resit students often lost marks not on content knowledge but on response quality — answers that were descriptive rather than analytical, or that compared specification types without reaching a justified conclusion. Katie’s marking identifies the specific response patterns that cost marks last time and gives you clear, targeted guidance on how to correct them before the next sitting.
Self-study students
Students with professional specification-writing experience face a particular self-study risk in L4M2: feeling well prepared because the subject matter is familiar, while the gap between practical knowledge and exam-standard analytical writing remains unexamined. The tutor-marked submission surfaces that gap before the exam — which is the only time it actually matters.
Busy professionals
Twelve to fifteen hours fits around a full working week. The condensed format focuses every hour on the content and written response skills the exam tests — with a structured plan that prioritises analytical practice over re-reading, because at Level 4, the quality of your written responses is what the exam measures.

Founder & Lead Tutor
Katie Jarvis-Grove
FCIPS CHARTERED · Creator of the Aspire revision packs
Katie has spent over twenty-five years working in procurement across four sectors, achieving Chartered FCIPS chartered status in 2015. She created the Aspire revision packs after noticing that most CIPS students were either over-revising broad textbooks or under-preparing for the specific demands of the OR exam format.
Her approach is deliberate: concise, targeted, and built around what the exam actually tests. The 95% pass rate across all CIPS levels reflects how well it works.

Frequently asked questions
Is this enough if I haven’t studied L2M2 yet?
No. The revision pack is designed for students who have already engaged with the L4M2 content and need focused exam preparation. If you’re starting from scratch, the L4M2 Study Pack (£295) includes comprehensive coverage of all topics, unlimited tutor support, and sixty to eighty hours of structured learning — including full preparation for the CR written format.
Can I submit my practice questions more than once?
The revision pack includes one tutor-marked submission. If you’d like additional feedback rounds, unlimited submissions are available through the Study Pack. For most revision students, one well-timed submission provides enough targeted guidance to make a meaningful difference to the result.
How quickly will I receive tutor feedback?
Feedback is returned within five working days of submission. We recommend submitting during Week 1 of your study plan to leave enough time to act on Katie’s guidance before your exam. If your exam is very soon, contact us before purchasing.
When’s the best time to buy?
Ideally two to four weeks before your exam date — enough time to review the notes, complete practice questions, submit for marking, and work through the feedback. The rewriting that follows good tutor feedback is where real improvement happens at Level 4, and that takes time. Purchasing with fewer than ten days to go limits how much benefit you’ll get from the full process.
