About the qualification

What is the CIPS Level 2 Advanced Certificate?

The CIPS Level 2 Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations is the entry level qualification in the CIPS framework. It’s designed for anyone working in, or looking to move into, operational procurement and supply roles.

The qualification gives you a solid understanding of the procurement cycle, supply chain operations, contract administration, ethical sourcing, and commercial negotiation. It’s globally recognised and respected across both the public and private sectors.

The qualification is regulated by Ofqual and sits at RQF Level 2 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework, equivalent to GCSE level in academic terms, but the content is entirely vocational and directly applicable to procurement roles.

All five modules are assessed by OR (Objective Response) exams: structured, multiple-choice style assessments. There are no essays or case studies at this level, making the exams more accessible for those less confident with extended writing.

  • Do I need any prior qualifications to enrol?
    No. CIPS Level 2 is open to everyone, there are no entry requirements. It’s designed as the starting point for the CIPS qualification pathway, whether you’re new to procurement or have been working in the field informally.
  • How long does it take to complete?
    Most students complete Level 2 within 6 to 12 months, but there’s no fixed deadline. You study at your own pace and book exams when you’re ready. Your CIPS student membership runs for 12 months from enrolment.
  • What’s included in the cost
    Everything: CIPS student registration, 12 months of CIPS membership, all 5 core textbooks, study materials for every module, all 5 exam fees, 1 exam resit, 7 hours of one-to-one tutor time with Katie (FCIPS Chartered), and pastoral support throughout. There are no hidden costs.
  • What are OR exams?
    OR stands for Objective Response. These are structured, multiple choice style exams. You won’t need to write essays, instead, you’ll answer a set of questions that test your knowledge across all learning outcomes for each module. They’re taken online through CIPS’s remote proctoring system.
  • Can I spread the cost?
    Yes. You can pay over 12 or 18 months. Contact us at info@apscips.com or 01790 755618.
  • What happens if I fail an exam?
    One exam resit is included in your programme at no extra charge, that’s one resit in total, which you can use on whichever module you need it for. If you need further resits beyond that, they can be arranged at the standard CIPS resit fee.
  • Can I get tutor support outside the 10 hours?
    The 10 hours of tutor time included is generous for Level 2. Most students find it’s more than enough. If you need additional time, this can be arranged separately. You’ll also have pastoral support from LC throughout, which doesn’t count against your tutor hours.
  • How do the exams work?
    You book your exams directly through CIPS when you feel ready. They’re taken online from home using CIPS’s remote proctoring system, no need to travel to an exam centre. Your tutor can help you prepare and let you know when you’re ready.
  • What can I do after completing Level 2?
    You can progress to CIPS Level 3 (Advanced Certificate). We offer complete training programmes for all CIPS levels from 2 through to 6, so you can continue your professional development with us all the way to MCIPS Chartered status.
  • Is this an online or classroom course?
    This is a fully online, distance learning programme. You study at home using your textbooks and our study materials, and book tutor time with Katie as and when you need it. There are no set class times or mandatory attendance.
  • Do I need to be based in the UK?
    No. CIPS qualifications are globally recognised and exams are taken online. You can study and sit your exams from anywhere in the world. Textbooks are posted, so international delivery times may vary.
